Myrvon V. Walwyn is a distinguished Virgin Islands leader and the current Leader of the Opposition, known for his unwavering commitment to public service, education, and community advancement. A former Minister for Education and Culture, he championed key reforms that strengthened the Territory’s educational framework, expanded opportunities for young people, and promoted national pride through culture and the arts.
Recognised for his disciplined leadership style and passion for uplifting others, Mr. Walwyn continues to be a strong voice for accountability, progress, and people-centered governance. His work reflects a core belief that the Virgin Islands can reach its highest potential through equity in education, empowerment of its citizens, and a government that serves with integrity and vision.
Entry Into Public Office
Myrvon V. Walwyn entered elective politics as an At-Large Representative, winning his first seat in the House of Assembly in 2011. His strong national support was reaffirmed in 2015, when he was returned as an At-Large Member with a record-setting vote count.
Cabinet and Ministerial Leadership
Following his initial election, Walwyn was appointed Minister for Education and Culture. In that role, he oversaw the national education system, youth development initiatives, cultural preservation programmes, and major student-focused projects throughout the Territory. His tenure emphasized educational advancement, student discipline, cultural pride, and expanded opportunities for the Territory’s youth.
Party Leadership
In 2018, Walwyn rose to the helm of his political organization when he was elected President of the National Democratic Party, taking on responsibility for leading the party’s strategic direction, messaging, and candidate development.
Return to the House
After a temporary absence from elected office, he successfully returned to the House of Assembly in 2023—this time as the Representative for the Sixth District. His return marked a renewed mandate from the people and a continuation of his focus on community development, accountability, and strong representation.
Leader of the Opposition
Walwyn currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition, where he leads the parliamentary Opposition Bench, scrutinizes government action, presents alternative policies, and champions transparency, good governance, and people-centered decision-making. His leadership role places him at the center of national debate and legislative oversight in the Virgin Islands.
